FAQs

  • UpCurrentFM is not primary care. While we see patients with all types of acute and chronic illnesses, we do not offer routine health screenings and are not available in emergencies. We ask that you have an established primary care provider before becoming our patient.

  • Yes! Patients may ask quick questions regarding their treatment plan in-between visits via the online patient portal messaging system (Cerbo). Your provider will respond within 2 business days. Questions not related to the treatment plan are best suited for patient visits.

  • Patients self-schedule all visits using our online patient portal, Cerbo. If both you and Zoie feel that UpCurrentFM is the right fit at the end of your FREE 20 minute phone consultation, you will receive an invitation to schedule a New Patient Visit via Cerbo. Once you are an established patient in Cerbo, you are able to self-schedule your Comprehensive Lab Review Visit and Follow Up Visits as mutually determined between you and Zoie.

  • We partner with Fullscript, an online supplement store that offer third-party tested supplements. If your provider recommended specific supplements during your visit, you will receive an email with a special link to Fullscript shortly after your visit. This link will contain the supplements discussed during your visit and instructions on how to purchase and ship to your home.

  • Specialty tests are generally not covered by insurance. However, you will always pay the specialty test company directly to get the lowest price possible. The quantitative PCR stool test we often order can bill your insurance for potential coverage, although coverage is not guaranteed. Also, Medicare patients can receive free mycotoxin urine tests and a heavily discounted Lyme & Co-Infections test. We will take all measures possible to help you cut costs on labs and specialty tests!

  • Yes, your labs may be covered by insurance, depending on your health insurance plan. Although we are not affiliated with insurance, we create for you a handout after your New Patient Visit that you can use to determine the coverage of your labs ahead of time. Our preference is to order labs via Labcorp, although we are happy to order labs wherever your insurance will cover (ie: Quest). We also have out-of-pocket lab options for our patients who either don’t have insurance or don’t want to go through insurance.

  • The answer to this question is dependent on your unique health challenges. In short, our goal is to help you with your health goals in the timeframe that works best for you. An individual seeking acne resolution will likely need fewer visits than an individual seeking the remission of Crohn’s Disease, for example. As a general rule of thumb, the longer the disease takes to develop, the longer the time required for healing. Please plan for a minimum of 4 visits (New Patient Visit, Comprehensive Lab Review Visit, Follow Up Visit x2).

  • Follow Up visits depend on your unique health goals, the number of labs and tests ordered, your progress, and of course, your preferences. Most Follow Up visits range from 1 week to 2 months, with the most common Follow Up interval being 4 weeks. Follow Up visits are a joint decision made between the patient and provider at the end of the visit. Together, you and your provider will decide upon a timeframe that feels right to the both of you.

  • We welcome asymptomatic patients who are interested in illness prevention, biohacking, longevity, and health optimization.

  • Reviewing test results with a Functional Medicine provider is a completely different experience than reviewing test results with a Conventional Medicine provider! We require one Follow Up Visit per test result, as each test is FULL of information that will be reviewed with you in extreme detail. These visits include not only a thorough review of the information, but also an in-depth discussion regarding your personalized treatment plan (lifestyle changes, supplements, medications, etc). Both portions of the visit have equal importance and take considerable time. At the end of your visit, you will be equipped to share with a friend your test results, what they mean, and what we are going to do about it (your personalized treatment plan).

  • The Comprehensive Lab Review Visit is a special visit, as it is where many root causes are discovered. In reviewing your comprehensive labs ordered at the New Patient Visit, we cover the following: what the marker is, why it was ordered, what your result was, where it falls as compared to the “ideal range” (not the standard reference range), what we are going to do about it, and how this relates to the big picture. The second portion of the visit is an in-depth discussion of your personalized treatment plan. You will leave the Comprehensive Lab Review Visit with a tailored supplement plan based off your unique labs (taking into account your current supplements/medications and vetted for potential interactions) and specific lifestyle recommendations.
